Orange County Firefighter and Deputy Sheriffs join forces for a good cause

Everyday, firefighters and deputy sheriffs put their lives on the line so their community can be safe and in some cases, catastrophic incidents occur. Therefore, on Sept. 27 Orange County Firefighters and Deputy Sheriffs hosted an event that benefits fallen peace officers, firefighters, and their families, which they call Cruisin’ for the Good Life. The Cruisin’ for the Good Life is only one of many strategies implemented by Orange County Professional Firefighter Association (OCPFA) to raise money for the firefighter relief fund. This fund has become so essential because it “has donated more than $100,000 to needy families and fellow firefighters in the last decade,” says Ray Geagan, Vice President of OCPFA. The Oceanic Institute parking lot in Dana Point was crammed with riders, anxiously awaiting the start of their journey. The participants departed Dana Point on an approximately 70-mile ride, which completed their tour to Irvine Auto Center. After stopping at five designated poker stops, the fun had just begun. The celebration continued with the event providing lunch, music, and numerous raffle prizes. Ticket buyers dug deep in their hearts as well as their pockets, paying $50 a ticket for a worthy cause. People, like Ryan Young, who could not attend the Cruisin’ for the Good Life motorcycle ride still managed to buy a ticket. “It is more about helping the firefighters and sheriffs and less about the prizes” said Young. “They dedicate their lives to protect us in our time of need and I think showing how much we appreciate their efforts is the least we can do to show them we care for them as well”. The Guns and Hoses Motorcycle Ride brought forth a great opportunity to bond with people from different backgrounds, experience a fun ride and remember the fallen who gave their lives to make the world a safer place.
